BEST BAIT: Blue Pilchard, Sea gar, Lures.
BEST TIME: Two hours either side of a full or low tide, at dawn and dusk.
The Tailor season on the east coast of Australia is from July or August through to October. They are most plentiful from Fraser Island eastern Victoria in the south. But can on occasion be caught in south and west Australia
Tailor are aggressive and an excellent small game fish. They are an underrated eating fish.To eat, ensure the fish is bled by cutting the throat and allowing the heart to pump clear. Also remove any blood along the spine when gutting which can quickly spoil.
Mostly found around rocky headlands and in gutters, with plenty of white water on the outer edge. Any time is generally good for Tailor but as with most fish dawn and dusk with an 2 hour either side of a full or low tide being best.Always cast into the white water or past it and wind back through it to intercept fish.
Tailor feed on small bait fish Which they incapacitate into bite sized pieces with sharp teeth.Hence the name. When they are biting get as many baits in as possible because they go off the bite as quick as they come on. If a hot bite dies, keep trying with half pilchard or lures.
